Taming the Dragon: Making technology work for us
As the five-year government funded Sus-IT research project is nearing its end, Leonie Ramondt, workpackage coordinator, and others will be presenting their findings on the learning support mechanisms that assist older people to sustain their use of ICT. In the afternoon, workshops with practitioners and service users will collectively specify recommendations for future good practice.

Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES) 2011 report available
86% of the 31, 202 students who took part in the HEA’s annual Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES) said that the overall experience of their programme met or exceeded their expectations.
Student-Led Teaching Awards
In collaboration with NUS the HEA has launched a UK-wide new initiative to “give students the chance to have their say in what good teaching looks like, and recognise staff who really engage students in learning”.

Higher Education
Higher Education Academy Teaching Development Departmental Grant Scheme
Over the next year the HEA is making £1.5 million of funding available to “stimulate evidence-based research and encourage innovations in learning and teaching that have the potential for sector-wide impact”. The second phase is aimed at higher education institution departments, with a total of £300,000 being made available. Bids are invited on the themes of Internationalisation and/or Employability.
Max Award: £30,000 per project. Closing date: 23 October 2011.
Adult Learning
Funding: €500,000 over four years. Closing date: 10 Oct., 2011.
Developing the adult learning sector
Funding: €650,000 over 12 months apportioned as follows:
Quality in the adult learning sector: up to €200,000; financing the adult learning sector: up to €230,000; opening higher education to adults: up to €22,000.
Closing date: 12 Oct., 2011.
Lifelong Learning
Funding: €1.14 million for the 2012 call of the lifelong learning programme.

Grundtvig visits and exchanges and preparatory visits
Grundtvig visits and exchanges aim to improve the quality of adult learning by enabling present or future staff working in this field to undertake a work-related visit to a country participating in the lifelong learning programme.
