A cross-university project team won a prestigious award from JISC

A cross-university project team is delighted to have won a prestigious award from JISC TechDis, a leading UK advisory service on technology and inclusion.

The JISC TechDis annual Online Accessibility Self-Evaluation Service (OASES) Awards are made for institutional progress on equality using technology.

A multi-disciplinary team from Anglia Learning and Teaching (including Jaki Lilly, Leonie Ramondt, Dave Fowler, Jason Williams and former colleague Tom Stacey; together with Faith Marchal from HR, and former colleague Marion Redding), was one of six winners of the 2011 round of OASES awards for our demonstration of the widespread impact of our inclusion policy, and our unique equality and diversity website resource - TeachInclusive http://web.anglia.ac.uk/inclusive_practice/.

TeachInclusive has a "Getting started" section that addresses key issues raised by students. It also has a "Going further section" for colleagues ready to go beyond the basics. Each section includes multiple-media (audio, close-captioned video, text) versions of the brief videos featuring staff explaining different key practices.

The Award was made not only for the website, but for how it features in our overall inclusion and diversity policies. For example, all new staff are informed about TeachInclusive at induction, and the website is listed as a key resource on the ‘Expectations of an Academic at Anglia Ruskin' document.

Since we entered the competition we have changed our name from INSPIRE to Anglia Learning and Teaching and Student Support Services have adopted the TeachInclusive resource which is currently being updated.
