INSPIRE's 10th Annual Learning and Teaching Conference went off with a bang on 17 September at the Chelmsford campus. Delegates enjoyed fascinating, innovative keynotes and workshops given by our speakers - Professor Gilly Salmon and Rick Stone.
In the morning, we held a series of roundtable discussions on the themes of Changes and Challenges, Assessment, and Blended/Distance Learning. The main points from these discussions were recorded, and available to view on the conference minisite. These discussions enabled delegates to compare points of view on a variety of learning and teaching topics, including work-based learning and assessment.
At lunchtime we held poster presentations of the work of our Learning and Teaching Fellows 2008-9, accompanied by MP3 recordings of their presentations. The Fellows video presentations are also available.
In addition, as part of our week celebrating learning and teaching at Anglia Ruskin University, we screened interesting and provocative keynotes from conferences we held in 2008. These include lectures from:
Prof. Glynis Cousin, Director of the Institute for Learning Enhancement and of the Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, University of Wolverhampton, who discusses how we might reframe how we approach issues of diversity, multiculturalism and global citizenship; Lawrie Phipps, Programme Manager, Users and Innovation, JISC: ‘Looking at the Impact of New and Emergent Technologies on Learning and Teaching'; Dr Sara De Freitas, Director of Research, Serious Games Institute, University of Coventry, talking about the exciting future of game-based learning using serious games and virtual worlds and Dr. Paul Martin, Creativity Centre, University of Brighton, who investigates the physical, psychological, and virtual learning environments and how these impact on the learning experience. Our keynote presentations, and associated slides, are now available.
On 18 September we held a drop-in workshop to assist colleagues in creating their own vodcasts. More of these workshops are planned. If you are interested in creating a vodcast or podcast, please contact us at inspire@anglia.ac.uk to let us know. In the meantime, INSPIRE is offering colleagues a chance to view beta versions of podcasts from our new range of re-usable learning objects (RLOs).
Our beta RLOs, on the subjects of Modular Assessment, Accessible Documents, Library Skills and Making Podcasts, are available to view at: www.inspire.anglia.ac.uk/rlo Each RLO is less than 10 minutes long and is designed for self-directed, any-time, any-place learning.
