News

22 Nov    Dr. Penny English, Learning and Teaching Adviser, Law, Faculty of Arts Law and Social Sciences, is co-organiser for a trio of one–day conferences being offered by the Socio-legal Studies Association on doing, funding and teaching socio-legal scholarship. All three events will take place in London in 2012. 

 

23 Nov    Call for proposals: Higher Education Change Programmes 2011-12:

·         Representing and Recording Student Achievement Change Programme;

·         Assessment and Feedback Change Programme.

Submission deadline: Wednesday, 14 December 2012.

 

28 Nov    Call for submissions: Annual Plagiarism Conference,
Celebrating 10 years of authentic assessment’; The Sage, Gateshead, 16-18 July 2012.

Submission deadlines: 31 January, 2012 - abstracts for papers;
29 February 2012 - proposals for workshops, poster, case studies &

videos.

 

29 Nov    Call for papers: Assimilate: Assessing students at Masters level,
a one-day conference, Leeds Metropolitan University, Thursday 6 September 2012.

Funding, Publications and Resources

 

Funding

HEA International Scholarship Scheme

Max Award: £20,000 per project;

Deadline for applications: Tuesday, 31 January 2012.

 

Increase in funding! - Discipline call for proposals to host and deliver a discipline focused learning and teaching workshop or seminar in partnership with the HEA

Max Award: £1,000 grant + up to £500 speaker expenses; event to be held before the end of July 2012.

 

HEA Teaching Development Grants:

 

Individual Grant Scheme:

·          Call opens - Tuesday January 3rd 2012,

·          Submission deadline - Midnight Sunday February 19th 2012,

·          Projects to commence - May 14th 2012.

Max Award: £7,000 per project.

 

Collaborative Grant Scheme – cross-institution and/or inter-disciplinary:

·         Call opens - Monday February 27th 2012,

·         Submission deadline - Midnight Sunday April 22nd 2012,

·         Projects to commence - July 2nd 2012.

Max Award: £60,000 per project.

Open call for applications to HEA new UK travel fund to enable staff and students engage in activities related to one of the HEA’s priority themes during 2011-2012.

Max Award: £300 for individuals; £500 for teams.

 

Publications

Law School Senior Lecturer publishes article on positive impact of VLEs

Senior Legal Practice Course Lecturer, Tom Serby, has had an article published in the prestigious academic peer reviewed journal, the Liverpool Law Review, July 2011 edition, entitled: “Willing Suspension of Disbelief: A Study in Online Learning Through Simulation and Its Potential for Deeper Learning in Higher Education.”
