The Multimedia course has been designed to give participants experience of teaching and supporting learning using different media and consists of a series of workshops. It enables participants to acquire the skills and competencies necessary to effectively support and facilitate learners with media. It is therefore of interest and value to all those who may want to use media to enhance their learning and teaching, be it in face-to-face, blended or distance learning contexts.
Course Description
The course aims to develop skills, knowledge and experience in the theory and practice of media enhanced learning. The course endeavours to strike a balance between exploring theory and developing practice of media enhanced learning through a range of activities in which participants engage with different media and reflect on their effectiveness in their own context.
The course will be set up in a virtual learning environment providing a secure context in which participants can share their experiences, ideas and concerns, but will use a range of different media, such as audio and video conferencing, online collaboration using text, audio and video, virtual worlds and other tools. While the course will introduce current models and concepts of multimedia learning and teaching, participants are encouraged to relate these theories to their own practice.
The course starts with a face-to-face seminar followed by a number of face-to-face or online workshops exploring and employing different media.
This course is recognised by the Staff Educational Development Association (SEDA) and a reflective element is a requirement for SEDA certification. Therefore, if participants wish to achieve SEDA certification, in the final weeks they will write up a reflection on the course and its relevance to their learning and teaching context.
