Classroom teaching is integral in providing a positive learning experience for our campus-based students. It enables the delivery of consistent and high quality content to our students, live interaction between student and their tutor to explain key concepts, enable questions, and create a positive and purposeful learning and teaching environment.
Tutors need to have at their disposal teaching resources that will enable the intended curriculum to be delivered through appropriate learning, teaching and formative assessment methods.
These may include:
- The delivery of content which is also available to students via their module virtual learning environment (VLE);
- The integration of internet and other online resources within a live teaching environment;
- Interaction between the students and with their tutor to gather and share student input and feedback;
- The facility to disseminate and gather information on more than one platform simultaneously.
All these should be available to tutors so as to support the intended learning outcomes.
We have an ongoing programme for providing, in our campus teaching rooms, high quality Audio Video and Media equipment for tutors and students to use. There are already, approved plans to provide these in our new buildings. All new lecture theatres and classrooms at our new Ashcroft (Wrap) building at out Cambridge campus and the new Postgraduate Medical Institute at Chelmsford will contain these multi-platform and high quality resources as standard.
In addition, we have also instigated a programme of refreshment to existing teaching spaces at both campuses, which is expected to roll out over the next 2 years. This programme has already started, and for the start of the 2010-11 academic year, 29 teaching rooms will have been refitted, including a lecture theatre in Coslett and 28 teaching rooms in the Helmore building.
There will be some variations in these resources, dependent on classroom size and capacity, however, all will be provide new and improved learning and teaching options.
